Sports Betting: How to Bet Online and Read Odds From upcoming fixtures to events already in progress, the Betway sports betting page gives you direct access to current markets and prices. Search for a team or competition, browse the A-to-Z menu, move through Featured or open In-Play for events already underway. These pre-match options and live prices sit alongside racecards, alongside highlighted bets that give different ways to wager on the action. You can also download the Betway Sports app, available for both Apple and Android devices, with everything adapting to match your current screen size. Before placing a wager, make sure that you check the rules for the market, alongside the most recent odds. How to Bet Online: Step-by-Step Guide with an Example Betslip You can bet online at Betway in just a few straightforward steps. Keep in mind that users must be aged 18 or over to open a UK account, and we may ask for documents to verify your identity. Log in to your account or register: Existing users can log in to their Betway account, while new users can click on “Sign Up” and fill in the various fields that pop up using accurate information. Choose an account limit: Before depositing, open the Safer Gambling area and decide whether a net deposit limit would help you control spending. Lower limits apply immediately, while increases are subject to a cooling-off period. Add money through the cashier: Open the cashier and choose your preferred payment method from the available options. After this, type in the amount and follow the on-screen instructions. Find the or event: Search by team or competition if you already know the fixture. For a broader view, use the featured tabs or A to Z menu, then open the relevant competition page. Select a market: Choose the event and read the full rules rather than relying on the price alone, since similar selections can use different settlement conditions. It’s important that you understand each market before placing a wager on it. Add the selection to your betslip: Click or tap the displayed odds. The chosen outcome will move into the betslip, where you can confirm the event and current price before entering a stake. Enter the amount you want to wager: Type your stake into the betslip and review the potential return calculated from the displayed odds, remembering that the figure is only payable if the selection wins and the wager is settled as valid. Review and place the bet: Check the selection again before confirming. Once we accept the wager, the stake is deducted from your available balance, and the bet can be followed through My Bets. For a simple betslip example, let’s use a football selection displayed at decimal odds of 2.50. A £10 stake would show a possible total return of £25, which includes the original £10 stake, leaving £15 as potential profit. If the outcome loses, the stake is lost, and if the market is void, settlement follows the corresponding rules. Understanding Betting Odds: Decimal, Fractional and American Explained All of the odds in the sportsbook connect a stake to a possible return. Shorter prices generally reflect a higher implied chance, while longer prices produce a larger potential return from the same amount. Of course, regardless of the odds, no outcome is ever guaranteed to be a successful one. Fractional odds are familiar to many UK customers and are more commonly used when betting on horse racing. At 2/1, a winning £10 wager would return £30 in total, made up of £20 profit and the returned stake. To work out your potential winnings from fractional odds, multiply your stake by the fraction (top number divided by the bottom number). Another hugely popular format in the UK is decimal odds, which display the full potential return for each unit stake. To calculate this, multiply the stake by the displayed number, so, for example, odds of 3.00 would also give a £30 return on a successful bet from a £10 bet. American odds use positive or negative figures around a 100-unit reference. A positive price shows the profit available from 100 units, while a negative price shows how much would need to be staked for 100 units of profit. For example, if you bet on a favourite at -150, you must stake £150 to make a £100 profit, whereas an underdog at +150 means a £100 stake would award a £150 profit. Implied probability gives another way to read a decimal price. Divide one by the odds and multiply the result by 100. A price of 2.50 represents 40%, although the percentages across every outcome can add up to more than 100% once the bookmaker's margin is included. A sensible odds comparison methodology starts by checking that the outcome and settlement rules match before comparing the displayed prices. For example, a football price based on normal time should not be compared directly with one that includes extra time, for example. Common Bet Types and Worked Examples Single Bet: As the name suggests, one selection forms the whole wager. If £20 is placed at decimal odds of 1.80, the possible total return is £36, made up of £16 plus the original £20 stake. Double Bet: Two selections are combined, with both required to win. For example, odds of 1.50 and 2.00 create combined decimal odds of 3.00, giving a £30 potential return from a £10 stake. If either leg loses, the double bet will be marked as a losing one, even if the other one won. Accumulator Bet: An accumulator, often shortened to acca, links more selections in one wager. An example of this would be four legs priced at 1.50, 1.80, 2.00 and 2.20 combine to decimal odds of 11.88. A £10 stake would display a possible return of £118.80. Every leg must win, so adding another selection increases the odds but also creates extra points where the bet can fail. Each-way Bet: Used most often on horse racing, an each-way bet has a win part and a place part. A £10 each-way selection costs £20 because the stake is applied twice. Let’s say the horse is priced at 8/1 and the place terms are one quarter of the win odds, this means that the place side would settle at 2/1. If the horse finishes within the paid places without winning, the win side loses and the place side can still return £30. Each race has its own place terms, so be sure to check the fraction and number of places on the racecard before adding the selection. In-Play Betting: How Live Markets Work and What to Expect Once an event begins, it can move into the In-Play area of our betting website. The page groups matches and contests that are already under way, with prices changing as the action develops. Open the event to see which live markets remain available, then choose a price in the same way you would before the start. It’s important to know that updates can happen quickly. A football market may react to a goal or dismissal, while a tennis price can change after a break of serve. During an important moment, the affected options may be suspended while the market is reviewed. They can reopen at a different price or remain closed if the relevant outcome has already been decided. Your screen is not guaranteed to be level with the information used to manage a live market, either. Broadcasts and streams can carry a delay, while data also takes time to reach the platform. Check the score and event clock in the Betway sportsbook because the confirmation screen contains the price that applies if the bet is accepted. Live availability also changes during the event. Some options remain open for most of the entire match or contest, while others close once their outcome can no longer be offered under the market rules. Cash Out may appear on an eligible unsettled wager as well, and the amount offered can sit above or below the original stake, depending on how the event and market have moved. Accepting it settles the bet early at the amount shown. Availability is not guaranteed, and the feature can disappear while a market is suspended. How to Evaluate a Betting Site: Navigation, Markets and Safety Features Here at Betway, we know usability is one of the biggest factors when comparing online betting sites. You can quickly find the event you’re looking for with us, either by searching for it directly or by browsing through our clearly laid out sports betting markets. In addition to this, featured categories give quicker access to current competitions, while the live betting area centres on events that have already started. Horse racing customers can move from the Next Off section into the full racecard in just a couple of clicks, and there are also highlighted bets that players can see without needing to check markets individually. If you ever need clarification about any of the markets we have to offer, you can open the rules and check how each bet is handled, including in the event of being voided or the fixture being abandoned. Of course, you can also get in touch with your friendly customer support team via live chat or email for further clarification. Account protection is another thing that players should consider, keeping both their financial details and themselves safe when betting on sports online. Betway Limited is licensed and regulated in Great Britain by the Gambling Commission under account number 39372, with customer money held in a segregated account at the Commission’s high protection level. We also use encryption methods to keep your details secure after they’ve been entered. Last but not least, safer gambling is something that we take incredibly seriously, which is why we make it as visible and easy as possible for players to utilise. Our UK site offers options such as deposit limits, breaks, session reminders and self-exclusion controls, with help information available from the account area. These features do not alter the risk of a wager, but they give customers ways to manage access and spending. Sign-Up Offers: How They Work and What to Watch For Whi
