Online casino licences, ranked by regulator

The igamingcpo data holds 135 online casino regulators, from offshore licensing bodies to national gambling authorities, each counted once after de-duplication. Their licences are ranked by the number of casino brands that carry each one. For every licence the table shows three figures: the casinos holding it, the distinct operators behind those casinos, and its GEO reach, the number of markets those casinos are listed in.

Select a licence to open its profile: the same three figures, the market where most of its casinos are listed, and a link to the regulator’s page with every casino under that licence. Search finds a regulator by name, and the table sorts by any column.

What the three licence figures measure

The three figures measure different things and do not move together. A licence held by many small operators shows a high operator count; one used by a few large groups shows many casinos but few operators. A brand with two licences is counted under both regulators, so the casino totals overlap.

GEO reach counts the markets where a regulator’s licensees are listed; it says nothing about where the licence is legally valid. An offshore licence can reach almost every market in the data, while some national licences reach only one. For licence shares among operators, see the operator ranking; for the size of each market, online casinos by country.

Questions about online casino licences

What is the most common online casino licence?

In the current data it is Curacao Gaming Control Board, carried by 1,742 casinos. The ranking is ordered by that count, so its first row always names the most widely held licence, and the rows below show how the other regulators compare on casinos, operators and markets.

Does a licence make an online casino legal in my country?

A licence shows which regulator authorised a brand; whether a country accepts that licence is decided by the country’s own law. This page records which regulator licenses each brand, and the GEO column shows where those casinos are listed. It does not assess national law, so check the national regulator before relying on any licence.

How do Curaçao, Malta and Anjouan licences compare?

Here they compare by use: how many casinos and operators hold each licence and how many markets those casinos reach. Search each regulator by name to put its figures side by side, or open its page to see every casino it licenses. The page does not compare costs, taxes or licensing requirements.

Can one online casino hold several licences?

Yes. A brand with more than one licence is counted under each of its regulators, which is why the casino figures overlap from row to row. Operators work the same way: one operator can hold several licences across its brands, and each of those regulators counts it.

What does GEO reach mean for a licence?

It is the number of distinct markets in which at least one casino holding the licence is listed. It shows how widely a regulator’s licensees spread across the 66 markets in the data, not where the licence itself is legally recognised.
