History
Playtech was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, by a team including Teddy Sagi, and listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2006. It grew by acquisition across two decades, absorbing Ash Gaming, Virtue Fusion, PokerStrategy.com (2013), Quickspin (2016), BGT (2016), Eyecon and the Italian operator Snaitech (2018), while building one of the largest live casino operations outside Evolution. It supplies more than 180 licensees across over 40 regulated jurisdictions and employs around 7,400 people.
Two divestments reshaped it. Finalto, the financial trading division, was sold to Gopher Investments for USD 250m in cash, completing on 11 July 2022 after a contested process. Snaitech, the Italian retail and online betting operator, was sold to Flutter Entertainment at an enterprise value of EUR 2.3bn — agreed in September 2024 and completed on 30 April 2025 — leaving Playtech focused on B2B technology and content. Its studio brands, including Quickspin, Ash Gaming and Eyecon, still appear as separate suppliers in operator lobbies.
