History

Lightning Box says it has supplied slot games to the industry since 2004. Its founders are mathematicians with more than 20 years each in slot math design who worked on models behind games for Aristocrat and IGT; its press pages name Peter Causley, described as CEO in its 2020-2022 coverage, and David Little as co-founders. The studio delivers mathematics, graphics and audio as complete game packages for land-based, online, mobile and social platforms, and lists partners including SG Digital, Quickfire, Incredible Technologies, High 5 Games and Penn National. Known titles include Silver Lion, Stellar Jackpots with Serengeti Lions, Chilli Gold, Respin Rhino, Lightning Horseman and Dolphin Gold.

In May 2020 it reported a licence from British Columbia's Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch to supply BCLC. Scientific Games, later renamed Light & Wonder, announced its acquisition of Lightning Box on 4 August 2021. The studio debuted in Connecticut through SG in February 2022, and the client logos on its site include DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, Hard Rock and OLG among others. Later releases include Smash Nudge Skillstar (2023), Thundering Shenlong and Thundering Gorilla (2024) and Claw and Roar, launched exclusively with Rush Street in May 2024. The catalogue on the site lists about 100 games.
