History
GAN began operating in the United Kingdom in 2002 with online skill competitions, secured its first major UK customers from 2004 and launched real-money casino games under a UK Gambling Commission licence after the Gambling Act 2005. It deployed its platform in Italy from 2008, released the first version of its GameSTACK platform in 2010, and in 2013 powered a New Jersey online casino, becoming, by its own account, the first platform provider to process a legal online deposit in that state.
In May 2020 GAN Limited, a Bermuda company, became the parent of GAN plc and listed on Nasdaq. On 1 January 2021 it acquired Vincent Group p.l.c. of Malta, the Coolbet sportsbook and casino operator, and in September 2022 it launched GAN Sports, a B2B sportsbook built on Coolbet technology for US and Canadian casinos. Sega Sammy Creation agreed to buy the company in November 2023 and completed the merger on 27 May 2025, after which GAN left Nasdaq.
Notable
- Says it processed the first legal online casino deposit in New Jersey on its platform in 2013.
- Acquired the Malta-based Coolbet operator for a total of 218.1 million US dollars on 1 January 2021.
- Sega Sammy Creation acquired GAN for 1.97 US dollars per share in cash, completing the merger on 27 May 2025.
How well established
The history, Bermuda incorporation, Las Vegas offices and acquisition by Sega Sammy Creation are documented in GAN's own SEC filings. The former gan.com site now redirects to Sega Sammy Creation and no longer carries any GAN content, so current licences and products are not confirmed there.
