History

Gaming1 traces its roots to the Circus gaming-hall brand, which opened its first room in Liège in 1992, and to the web agency ProduWeb, founded in 2002. In 2011 Circus and ProduWeb combined their operating and technology expertise to create Gaming1 and launch Circus.be; the company then offered a turnkey online platform to Belgian land-based operators. It opened a Malta office in 2014 to run international partnerships, starting with Circus.es in Spain, followed by online operations in Romania, Serbia, Portugal and Colombia.

In October 2018 the gaming activities of the Ardent Group were merged with the original Gaming1 company under the name Gaming1 Group. The group kept acquiring land-based casinos in France and Switzerland, entered the Netherlands with circus.nl in 2022, and in 2021 formed the Gamewise joint venture with Delaware North to bring its sports-betting platform to North American land-based operators. CVC Capital Partners Fund VIII became a shareholder in 2021.
