History

The company was founded in 1950 as Günter Wulff Apparatebau with borrowed start-up capital of 500 Deutschmarks, and its first approved machine was the TOTOMAT. In 1963 it introduced the first German machine with a joker, the Rotomat Joker, and in 1972 the Rotomat Monarch, which sold more than 30,000 units. The business later belonged to the Bally group, and in 1991 the slot-machine production and the German company Bally Wulff were separated from it. Over the following years it imported SEGA pinball machines, launched Magic Jackpot in 1998, which it calls the first jackpot system on the German market, and began building multigame machines in 2008.

In 2014 it took its Action Star package of 30 games to Spain, which remains its main export market. In 2016 it released its first online game, and in 2017 it launched its LUX machine generation for Germany's TR 5 technical rules; later titles include Sun Fire and Magic Djinn. Since 2022 APEX s.r.o. has been majority owner of BALLY WULFF Holding GmbH. In 2026 its company page listed nine customer centres, a Berlin head office and factory and more than 170 staff, and its online slots, such as Frankenzone and Viva la Clasica XL, are published by BW Gaming GmbH.
