History

AvatarUX was founded in 2019 by a team with prior studio experience, and launched through Yggdrasil's YG Masters partner programme, which gave a new studio operator distribution without building its own remote game server. Its PopWins mechanic — winning symbols pop and split into two, expanding the reel and increasing ways to win — became its signature and recurs across most of its titles.

The studio has since broadened its distribution beyond the Yggdrasil route. It appears on 716 casinos in this project's collected data. Its catalogue remains small and concentrated on PopWins variants rather than a broad set of mechanics. It is privately held.

Notable

  • Launched through Yggdrasil's YG Masters partner programme rather than building its own distribution first; it added its own remote game server in 2021.
  • Fredrik Elmqvist, Yggdrasil's founder, is reported to hold a majority stake personally — that is not the same as Yggdrasil owning the studio.
  • The PopWins mechanic recurs across almost its entire catalogue, alongside MultiPop and ZapReel.
  • Trades through the Epic88 entities; early trade coverage described it as Hong Kong-based before the Malta base.

Notable work

  • CherryPop
  • HippoPop
  • TikiPop
  • BountyPop
  • PopRocks

How well established

The Maltese entities, the licence numbers and the YG Masters route to market are documented. Fredrik Elmqvist's reported majority stake is not independently confirmed and is personal rather than corporate, and the Hong Kong base named in early trade coverage is unverified.
