History

American Gaming Systems was founded in 2005 to supply Class II slot machines to tribal gaming markets. Apollo Global Management acquired it in 2013, and David Lopez became President and CEO in 2014, when AGS bought Colossal Gaming and launched a tables division. It added Cadillac Jack in 2015, strengthening its Class II and Mexico business, and bought RocketPlay that year to start an interactive division. Its first proprietary cabinet, Orion Portrait, followed in 2017.

AGS completed an IPO in 2018, the year it released the Dex S shuffler and the STAX progressive, entered real-money online gaming and launched the Rakin' Bacon! franchise. Later products include the Starwall premium slot, Bonus Spin Xtreme, the Pax S shuffler and, in 2024, its first mechanical-reel cabinet, Revel. In 2025 Brightstar Capital Partners acquired the company, returning it to private ownership. In 2026 its about page cited more than 900 employees in 14 offices across 9 countries, and its online licences cover Malta, the UK, Romania, Gibraltar and several US states.
