History

5th Planet Games A/S describes itself as an entertainment financier, publisher and distributor based in Copenhagen. Until 30 November 2018 it traded as Hugo Games, a mobile games developer and publisher named after its Hugo the Troll franchise; it then took the name of 5th Planet Games, the Californian studio it had just acquired. As Hugo Games it licensed Hugo to Play'n GO, which released the slots Hugo in 2016, Hugo 2 in 2017 and Hugo Goal in 2018. In June 2020 it announced a Nyjah Huston casino-style game developed with Play'n GO for launch that July, and its games list also shows a Play'n GO slot built on darts player Peter 'Snakebite' Wright.

Skybound Entertainment announced a USD 10.5 million investment in the company in September 2021, and Skybound executive Mark Stanger became chief executive. Since then 5th Planet Games has co-financed, co-published or co-distributed several games, some based on Skybound properties such as Invincible and The Walking Dead; titles on its site include Invincible VS, Sker Ritual, Goodnight Universe and Atom Eve. In 2023 it invested in the Icelandic film and TV producer Sagafilm ehf and partnered with Nordisk Interactive A/S for Nordic and Baltic distribution. It reports to investors under Oslo Axcess rules, and its shareholder table dated 30 September 2026 shows Skybound Game Studios, Inc. holding 56.5% of the shares.

How well established

The Danish entity and address, the 2018 name change, the Play'n GO slot partnerships, the Skybound investment and shareholding and the Oslo Axcess listing are documented on the official site. The official site does not state the company's own founding year; the 2009 date it gives belongs to the acquired Californian studio.
