Novomatic

Novomatic was founded in 1980 in Gumpoldskirchen, Austria, by Johann Graf, and grew into one of Europe's largest land-based gaming manufacturers and operators, producing cabinets and games under the Novomatic, Novoline and Admiral brands and running venues across Europe. Its Book of Ra and Sizzling Hot land-based titles became reference points for the European amusement-with-prizes and casino-slot market. It reports around 26,000 employees and locations in roughly 50 countries.

Its online presence came by acquisition: Greentube, a Vienna company founded in 1998, joined the group in 2010 and became its digital division. Novomatic also acquired about 53% of the Australian manufacturer Ainsworth Game Technology in 2016; a subsequent attempt to buy the remaining shares at A$1.00 each failed to secure minority approval and the implementation deed was terminated on 6 February 2026, leaving Ainsworth ASX-listed with Novomatic at roughly 60%. In 2025 it agreed to sell its Austrian Admiral retail business to Tipico. When an online casino lists 'Novomatic' as a supplier it is almost always referring to Greentube-distributed conversions of Novomatic land-based games, not to a direct contract with the Austrian manufacturer.
